THE MISSION

The mission was to increase the employees' ability to create online/virtual training and exercises at the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA), a Swedish agency for peace, security, and development.

The purpose of the project was:

  • To meet the demand from FBA's customers regarding online training by improving FBA's pedagogical knowledge using Colearn's Hybrid Learning Methodology®.

  • To increase innovation and learning through experimentation, knowledge sharing, and collaboration within FBA's culture.

  • To improve FBA's training quality by increasing pedagogical resources and thus improving the organisation's efficiency and relevance.

OUR ROLE

During the pre-study phase, the project manager and advisor acted together with the educational coordinator.

Together, we were responsible for creating a plan for business development. Colearn was then responsible for designing change and training initiatives.

During the delivery phase, we had a leading role as process leaders, trainers, advisors, and coaches for the business in the change journey.

The Solution

 

To create a clear understanding of the conditions, we started with a current state analysis.

As a result of our analysis, we created a new internal definition of education and introduced the concept of hybrid pedagogy* (Colearn's Hybrid Learning Methodology®) to change the view on learning. This included looking at education more holistically and long-term, and focusing on change and behavior in the individual's context.

We then created a common vision for what we wanted to achieve and agreed on the most important changes that needed to happen to reach our goal.

Over a period of two years, we developed and implemented several initiatives to help employees adopt hybrid pedagogy, with a focus on experimentation and sharing of experiences and good examples.

The initiatives included activities for organizational development, workshops, training, labs, and advisory services to help employees create hybrid learning solutions. We also created a digital guidance tool, the Hybrid Learning Guide, to support employees on demand.

In the long-term work, we also developed a step in FBA's onboarding process for new employees, focusing on hybrid pedagogy.

Finally, we developed a concept for a digital tool to support mission leadership of peacekeeping operations together with the UN Challenges Forum International Secretariat.

 
 
EFFECTS & RESULTS

Hybridpedagogik was established as a common language and method among employees. Their focus has shifted from the technology itself to a focus on effectiveness, needs, and results, with technology as an enabler.

Employees and trainers gained a new perspective on learning, increased their competence, and gained confidence in working with hybrid learning solutions.

The organization also reports increased experimentation, engagement, and initiative-taking for informal and organized knowledge sharing.
