machine learning/data mining, WEKA now Java later
I have started the course at https://weka.waikato.ac.nz/dataminingwithweka but haven't found anyone actively discussing it. Ultimately I want to move to Java, but figured I'd do this course first. Would love to be able to discuss topics as I go through the course.
A couple of suggestions: First of all, I think Data Science is very interesting topic to learn and research on but on the granular level it covers plethora of topics which can be pain in the neck to master individually itself, for example, you need to have some background of basic statistical analysis like hypothesis testing or expectation-maximization methods or if you talk computer science way some basic data structures like suffix arrays, BWT and if you talk Big data then tools like Hadoop or Hive. Basically, my point is you have to first explore the field well enough to decide on what you really like about Data Science. Secondly, even though Machine Learning is very interesting topic to learn but it's a totally different beast to tackle when it comes to applying it to real word problems.
